It is winter solstice, the longest and darkest night of the year. I am sure many of you have had a challenging year as I have, and are ready for a new year to come. Illness, heart break, loss, and other trials have been putting pressure on us to look at these things that no longer serve us and which we need to let go. It is from these difficulties that force us to make change, and from change there comes healing. This shift of cycle from darkness to light is now upon us and is a positive time to move forward to rebuild this life that is ours to have.
The previous 12 months we have been forced to look at these things that no longer serve us. Whether that is our relationships, work, living situation, or beliefs we have towards ourselves. All our habits of body and mind that get in the way of living the full and loving life we know we want to live. It is interesting to recognize that we hold on so dearly to the most toxic and abusive things in our life, whether this is a person, an experience, a substance, or a behavior. We become trauma bonded to these things because of the reinforcement and dependence of the abuser when they reach back out and we take them in makes us feel alive with the endorphins that are released. I wish I could recommend a simple herbal protocol to help relieve this, but the most important thing is to sit with these feelings, and tell ourselves that we are ok, we are safe, and we are going to get through this.
We must remember that even amongst these hard times we have experienced, the seed of healing is present. And this day when the darkness outweighs the light is the cumulation of all that has occurred the previous year, and a new year of increasing light is before us.
